GENERAL INFORMATION

Problem

Theproblem that was given to use was to be able to make a robotic arm that actually worked. We are given the third quarter and the final quarter to be able to complete this specific assignment. We must have a CAD made on the robotic hand itself. We have to be able to follow the 12 steps of engineering and show proof.

We will also have a portfolio that we will have to complete about the whole process of the robotic arm project. The portfolio will include a cover page and index to be able to organize and present our portfolio more professionally. There will also be things that will present our ideas with the introduction, design brief, and decision matrix. Then we have the other parts of the portfolio that will get into the process of building the robotic arm.

We must be able to present a prototype at least by the end of the third quarter and a draft of the portfolio. All will be turned in at the end of the fourth quarter: Cads, Portfolio, and final prototype. You will also be able to gain extra credit if you are able to do this with a real person. Overall you must finish and present all of these things by the end of this school year.

Solution

This project seemed hard so I got right into planning what exactly will I do. I started by looking at all the requirements necessary for this project. I was able to start brainstorming on the ideas that I could do. I started by recording the process of my 12 steps of engineering in the portfolio and doing research. I was able to see much difference in how people did their robotic arm.

I then decided on my idea using a decision matrix, which helped me decide the variables. During this process, I made sure to start on my website and see what I need do. I made sure to plan to make sure I didn't run out of time to do the project. I started to build the whole system that I had planned and was able to finish it in a few days. I then started to do some testing. This allowed me to see some problems that my system contained.

I was able to continuously test and see all the problems that the robotic arm had. During this process, I was able to complete some parts that were needed in the portfolio and organize it more. I was able to then fix all the problems and finalize the prototype I had been working on. This all led to me being able to finally finish my portfolio and complete my prototype.

TESTING that failed
Explanation- These videos show me using flex sensors and bending them. I bend them to be able to get all the servos to react. In these videos, they all fail to react together to the flex sensors that I use. I concluded that the reason must be the flex sensor. I made them by hand so they were no perfect.

TESTING THAt succeeded
explanation - In this video you see the servo motors being able to accurately react to the flex sensors I bend. They were all able to make a 180-degree turn. This is unlike the failure videos that failed to do exactly this.

Feedback

I say this project was a very hard-working and high difficulty level project. I had many moments where I thought the world was going to end and was constantly just having random stress moments. I say that this project really requires the student to put a good amount of time in. This is not a project you can do on the last day, week, or even month. This project truly requires you to challenge yourself and dedicate time to solving the problem at hand.

I would say this project made you search for the answer and allowed me to gro when it comes to research. I did find it annoying when I can't find the solution to a problem in the system, but I guess that's the process. I would say the requirements doubled from the last project and made it a little more stressful. Overall it was project that I didn't dislike but I didn't particularly like.
